How we can help

WorkWise supports unemployed people in the West Midlands to overcome travel barriers. We can help with:

  • Free travel information and journey planning
  • Free four week travel tickets for new starters

Our team works closely with Jobcentres across the West Midlands ensuring that they are able to provide the very best information and support for their users. Free travel information

You can advise jobseekers to expand their employment opportunities by looking further afield. Using our online travel information and journey planning apps, applicants can easily plan routes to potential employers and keep track of any delays on the go.

Free four week travel pass

To help applicants through the difficult first few weeks till pay day, WorkWise provides a free four week travel pass, suited to applicants' needs and valid within the Network West Midlands Area. If they need to travel outside the area, contact us to find out how we can help.

All applicants now apply online for this ticket. 

Eligibility criteria

To benefit from the WorkWise scheme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Live in a West Midlands local authority area: Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton
  • Be unemployed prior to applying for travel support

If you’re applying for the four week travel pass you must:

  • Have not received WorkWise travel to work help between 1 April 2016 and 30 March 2017
  • Be starting a job working 16 hours or more per week

Please note that you must complete a WorkWise application form online within five working days of starting your new job.

We’re sorry but WorkWise can’t help:

  • If you’re being helped by another programme that provides travel support (e.g. Jobcentre Plus referral to the Work Programme or Work Choice)
  • With travel costs for attending training programmes

Criteria for disqualification

You won’t be able to receive WorkWise support if you don’t abide by our terms and conditions

How to process applications

It’s relatively quick to apply to WorkWise and receive support. Just follow the steps below for a stress-free and successful application.

  1. Check eligibility criteria below to ensure that the applicant can benefit from WorkWise. 
  2. Applying for a four week travel pass
    - Ask applicants to visit our online application service 

The WorkWise team will review the application and send out a travel pass that matches the applicant's personalised journey plan within five working days.

To speed up the application process, applicants will need the following documents.

  • Proof of unemployment.
  • Your National Insurance (NI) number.
  • Confirmation of your job offer. This could be in the form of a letter or email.
  • An image in a passport style for use on the pass.
