Travelling to hospital by car can sometimes be awkward and difficult due to limited space, high demand and high parking charges.

Why not try travelling by bus, train or metro tram?

Whether you're visiting, attending an appointment or travelling to work, public transport is a convenient, great value way to travel.

It's less stressful than sitting in traffic jams, you don't have to worry about finding a parking space or having the correct change to pay at parking meters and you're freeing parking spaces for people who have no choice but to use their cars.

10 reasons to leave your car at home:

  • At most hospitals you have to pay to park this can be expensive.

  • Parking can be difficult at visiting times and you could end up wasting valuable time looking for a space.

  • If you are attending for treatment it may not be safe to drive home afterwards.

  • If you need to stay at the hospital you may have to move your car or pay for overnight parking.

  • You could be taking up a parking space that's needed urgently by someone who can only travel to the hospital by car.

  • You may have to return to your car to 'feed' the meter.

  • You may have to park a long distance from the hospital.

  • By leaving your car at home you will be helping to reduce congestion around the hospital improving access and the environment.

  • If you live near to the hospital and are able try walking or cycling it will improve your health and save you money.

  • If you work at the hospital see if someone who works the same shifts would like to car share it will save you money on petrol and parking costs.
