A Fresh Way Forward Bus changes in East Birmingham and North Solihull

There have been changes to route and numbers for some bus services in East Birmingham and North Solihull from Sunday 27th March 2011.

Partners Arriva Midlands, Central Buses, Central Connect, Centro, Claribels, Diamond, Johnsons, National Express West Midlands, Stagecoach and Birmingham and Solihull Councils worked together to deliver a more modern bus network.

As part of the review we looked at how people within the area, and services such as hospitals and shops were served, where services interchanged and what changes could be made.

We recently undertook consultation and market research in the East Birmingham and North Solihull area to ask local people and local representatives about their view on the current network and would like to thank everyone who took part to help shape the revised network.

The revised network started on Sunday 27th March, and in the run up to that date customers will have seen some numbers and timetables changing at bus stops and shelters at key centres, and on roads across East Birmingham and North Solihull.

Improved Links

The new network will see links improved between Bromford and Birmingham, Marston Green, Smiths Wood and Solihull, Lea Hall and Solihull, Solihull and Heartlands Hospital, Lea Hall and Birmingham.

We are still reviewing the interchange at Chelmsley Wood.

Improvements as part of the revised network

We are agreeing a series of improvements to the bus network over the next three years. These will include newer buses, new infrastructure such as new stops and shelters and more Real Time Information to buses and stops in East Birmingham and North Solihull.

WorkWise in North Solihull helps unemployed residents of North Solihull back into work through the provision of public transport support, and information, advice and guidance on travelling sustainably by walking, cycling and car-sharing. Eligible clients can also benefit from free day passes to job interviews and/or monthly passes for new employment. This project is funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Centro, and supported by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and Jobcentre Plus.
